Here are my tips on the areas you need to focus on when checking the best Sahara tours.
- Check recommendation online
You can find a lot of information about the best Sahara Tours online.
This is so important to know others’ experiences. The best place to know is to search it on the internet. You will find a lot of true stories from travelers, sharing their experiences in Morocco.
Then, I will search the agency names from Google to see any people shared their experiences with them, too. E.g. the conditions of the car also matter, sometimes I heard that some travelers got bad experiences with old cars which are not comfortable, or no AC normally.
2. Recommendation from friends
Some travellers write their trip experiences on the best Sahara Tours they have. If your friends have visited Morocco before, try to see if they have any good recommendations. Sometimes, I will also check travelers’ blog posts as these are always the most trustworthy posts for travelers.
3. Check the details of the tours
When you ask for the quotation of Sahara tours from different agencies, carefully check the details and offers.

In fact, most itineraries are more or less the same. The accommodation they provide may vary.
Some tours provide different accommodation categories, such as standard and luxury tours. That is fair because you can choose the option with your budget. But I have met some that they put all hotels under the same group, however, some hotels are luxury, but some are standard. This means that even if you pay for the same price, but there is a chance that they are giving you the standard one! so just be careful of this.
Some tours did not mention any hotel names, which are even more dangerous as you will not know the quality and standard of the hotels you are going to stay.
– Sahara camp
E.g. for a luxury camp in the desert, the quality varies a lot!
The one I like most is called Saharay Camp, which is near some big sand dunes, with a nice decoration in the middle of the camp and they even have an electric heater in each tent! (it is so important during the wintertime). And the hot water is nice and the thing I love most is the bed. It is so comfy and big!
Also, their tents are equipped with windows that you can see the stars from the tent inside!
4. Check if they include meals or not
Most tours include breakfast and dinners at the hotel during the trip. However, they won’t include lunch. For me, I think this is better as then you can choose what do you want to eat, instead of being brought to some restaurants that may not suit your taste buds. Also, you can select from the menus instead of being offered the standard one set by the tour.
5. Ask if any extra costs
You may ask if there is an extra cost for camel rides or for the tour guides (of course, tips are not included as it depends on your wish)
6. Check how much deposit you need to pay
The tours I joined before, mostly asked for part of the tour fees as a deposit, and then we pay to the driver on the first day of the trip. If they ask you the full amount before your trip, I will prefer to be more careful about this.
